Twitter lalu dengan cepat me-reset semua password akun-akun yang dicurigai telah dicuri oleh peretas. Mereka kemudian mengirimkan email pemberitahuan pada akun yang diserang tersebut bahwa passwordnya telah di-reset. "Serangan ini bukan dilakukan oleh peretas amatiran, mereka sangat pro," tulis Bob Lord. "Kami yakin bahwa tidak hanya situs ini saja yang diserang, namun banyak juga situs lainnya yang mendapat ancaman serupa. Untuk alasan itu kami merasa penting untuk mempublikasikan serangan ini sementara kita masih mengumpulkan informasi." Beredar spekulasi bahwa mayoritas akun yang berhasil dibobol adalah akun era 2006-2007 saat Twitter masih awal beroperasi.
